“‘You must do something to make the world more beautiful,’ Miss Rumphius counsels her great niece Alice in Barbara Cooney’s delightful children’s book of the same name. When I moved to Mount Desert Island in 2016, I made a decision, guided by this advice, to photograph something beautiful every day. There is such beauty, such wildness, here on this island where the sea pounds out its story and I scramble over granite and the changing light, the changing days pull me in.” Donovan, author of the chapbook Dress Her in Silk (Finishing Line Press, 2009), is an adjunct faculty member at College of the Atlantic.
