The Pine Tree Boating Club is the Maine chapter of the Antique Outboard Motor Club. Its members share an appreciation for small boats and antique outboards like this 1956 Mark 55 powering an AristoCraft Torpedo across Freedom Pond in mid-August. Membership has its benefits and the club has provided them year-round ever since its initial 1982 meet in Union, organized by a blueberry grower and outboard collector. The club hosts “wet meets” in the summer on inland waters and “dry meets” during the winter at a Mercury dealer’s shop to repair motors in the company of veteran mechanics, who want to pass their skills through the ranks. Members are drawn by a shared appreciation of antique outboards with their industrial design, the lines of vintage boats, and interior Maine waters. The Pine Tree Boating Club welcomes new participants—all that’s required is a passion for small antique boats and engines.
