The Maine I Love — Jonathan Laurence

Jonathan Laurence has been capturing moments that make up our daily lives for over 20 years. Both his photos and videos come across as fragments of life, those fleeting images of people, places, and things that our memory tries to hold on to, but that eventually fade. In recent years he has worked onboard a lobsterboat and documented how those who work on the water experience the ocean. Intense natural beauty is an everyday occurrence from the stern of a lobsterboat, but so are long, grueling days of labor. Fishing is not just about what you see above, but also about understanding the geography and biology below the surface. This connection to the sea is monetary, and intimate. Jonathan’s love for the sea will evolve in 2022, as he plans to offer eco tours and custom charters out of Rockport Harbor onboard his lobsterboat Moon Dog.
